General Motors' Engineering Center in Korea is showcasing its technological leadership and future mobility vision at the 2023 Daegu International Future Auto & Mobility Expo (DIFA) which runs from Oct. 19-21. It underscores the company’s role as a platform innovator guiding the future of mobility through virtual and EV technologies.
DIFA combines exhibitions and expert forums addressing the full spectrum of the future mobility industry. They include eco-friendly vehicles, autonomous driving, Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and future automotive components under the theme "From Ground to Sky, a New Beginning in Mobility." The exhibition, now in its seventh year, is being held at EXCO in Daegu with the participation of approximately 300 companies.
GM's Engineering Center in Korea once again has a major presence at DIFA. It is shining the spotlight on its engineering excellence in the virtual and EV technology domains, which are the cornerstones of future mobility.
"Technology and connectivity drives GM's ambitious vision of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion," said GM’s Engineering Center in Korea President Brian McMurray. "GM is at the forefront across multiple areas, from virtual engineering and EV platforms to cutting-edge autonomous driving technology. Through DIFA, attendees will get a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in GM’s vision for the future of mobility and witness firsthand as we steer towards our electrification era."
The GM booth consists of the Virtual Zone and the EV Zone in line with the concept of "Physical to Virtual."
The focal point of GM’s exhibition, the Virtual Zone, presents a compelling visual showcase, illustrating the transition from traditional internal combustion engine technology to the future of virtual engineering in the electric mobility era. GM is introducing an innovative concept known as the Dummy Park, where a family of crash test dummies – a symbol of traditional physical engineering – are displayed at the booth. It serves as a transformation symbol as we move towards virtual testing and an electric future. Visitors will be able to engage and better understand the remarkable technological advances achieved through virtual engineering.
The EV Zone features an upcoming future electric vehicle built on the Ultium platform that is awaiting domestic launch. The EV is a testament to GM's unparalleled technology, propelling the global automaker toward a fully electrified future. Additionally, GM has a range of captivating attractions to offer visitors an engaging and informative experience.
GM is also participating in today’s 2023 Korea International Future Auto & Mobility Forum jointly hosted by Daegu Metropolitan City; the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. Brian McMurray and GM’s Engineering Center in Korea Director, Yeong-woo Yoo, will share their insights on GM's future growth strategy and the company's trajectory from an automaker to a platform innovator under the theme of "All-Electric Future Forward." GM's presentation will focus on the technical intricacies and the competitive advantages inherent to the Ultium and Ultifi platforms, which serve as the bedrock of cutting-edge mobility technology.
Korea has GM's second-largest engineering center in the world. Equipped with facilities capable of complete vehicle development, from initial design to final vehicle verification and production technology, it is playing a crucial role in global engineering to support GM's all-electric future and lead the development of future mobility technologies.
